How Successful Individuals Start the Day
The manner in which you wake up in the morning is proven to dictate how the rest of your day is going to go. This is why many successful individuals have developed strict morning routines to help maximize their energy and productivity levels throughout the course of their days. Here are some ways successful people such as tech-billionaire Elon Musk and media-mogul Oprah Winfrey start their days.
Start Early: Apple CEO Tim Cook starts his day at 3:45am and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson is known to wake up at 5am. Branson writes that he prefers to wake early so he can work through most of his emails before the rest of the world logs on. Whether these business people rise early to work out or sort through emails, it is important to get enough sleep. If you’re going to get up early, make an earlier bedtime a priority!
Meditate: Oprah Winfrey and Arianna Huffington famously start their days with meditation. Even though you may wake up still tired, after meditating for 20 minutes, you’ll get energy-boosting endorphins that’ll help you spring to life without having to rely on just caffeine. Meditation is also an excellent way to counteract stress, with the primary side effects being increased happiness, better sleep and more creativity.
Eat Breakfast: When you rise early, you actually have time to eat breakfast. Without breakfast, your body is running on fumes until you can finally get a meal in at lunch, holding you back from reaching your full potential. Tony Robbins, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and life coach starts everyday by going green. Literally! His morning ritual includes a large bowl of greens topped with a variety of water-based veggies, some avocado (for a little healthy fat) and a lean piece of grilled fish.
Exercise: Fashion designer/CEO Tory Burch starts her days at 5:45am. She then wakes up her three sons and exercises for 45 minutes. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square Inc. and Twitter, gets up at 5:30 to meditate then runs several miles. When you exercise in the morning, it is a lot like breakfast in that it gets your metabolism going. Morning exercise also improves your mental energy. Movement can be a tremendous source of energy- it is your all-natural cup of coffee!
Make Your Bed: Though this morning ritual make seem trivial and unimportant, according to Author Charles Duhigg, “making your bed every morning is correlated with better productivity, a greater sense of well-being and stronger skills with sticking at a budget.” Additionally, it is found that those who make their bed in the morning are up to 206.8% more likely to be millionaires as it puts your mind into a productive mindset.
